ITALY

EAST OF THE APENNINE

Italy is beautiful, and home of a vast variety of amazing landscapes, both man-made and natural; the Apennine mountain range divides it in two, making it a good divide for my galleries as well. Sitting on Italy’s east coast between Ravenna and Chioggia, the landscapes of the Valli di Comacchio and the river Po’s Delta are the result of a long, constant struggle of nature against man, for ages battling to get control of ground and water by diverting and channelling the course of the river, turning the wetlands, lagoons and swamps into usable land and so on. The touching, melancholy landscapes that resulted are extremely beautiful and photogenic. Venice, Mantua and Lake Orta add three more location inescapably defined by the presence of water.
