ITALY

WEST OF THE APENNINE

Italy is beautiful, and home of a vast variety of amazing landscapes, both man-made and natural; the Apennine mountain range divides it in two, making it a good divide for my galleries as well. On the west of the Appennini is Tuscany: epitomising Italy for generations of painters, writers, artists and photographers, its wonderful landscapes are deservedly famous. Rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, olive orchards, vineyards, old farms and churches characterise this beautiful, well-groomed land where thousands of years of human intervention designed some of the most pleasant landscapes I had the fortune to photograph. Le Cinque Terre, north of Tuscany, is a series of five picturesque old fishermen’s villages: their landscapes are a mixture of these villages with their characteristic coloured houses hanging one on top of the other over little natural bays and coves, and layered sedimentary rock shaped during the ages by the Earth’s movement and pressure.
